What We Do

Invasive Phragmites Control

Without a doubt, we are best known for our work controlling invasive phragmites throughout southern Ontario. Specializing in large-scale management, we have become leaders in sourcing the right equipment and implementing the best methods for successful control of Phragmites.

Woody Invasive Control

Our team offers chemical treatment of woody invasive trees and shrubs, including:

  • Autumn Olive
  • Barberry
  • Black Locust
  • European Black Alder
  • European Buckthorn
  • Multiflora Rose
  • Norway Maple
  • Scots Pine
  • Tartarian Honeysuckle
  • White Mulberry

Herbaceous Invasive Control

Creating an awareness of invasive plants, and educating our community about the negative impact certain plants have on natural areas and our native pollinator population is the first step to limiting their occurrence in the landscape.

Examples of some of the herbaceous plants we control are:

  • Garlic Mustard
  • Dog-Strangling Vine
  • Lily-of-the-Valley
  • Giant Hogweed
  • Reed Canary Grass
  • Manna Grass

Trail Maintenance

Recreation is essential to our wellbeing, so we are happy to maintain multi-use trails on public and private lands. Trail creation, controlling trail edges, and clearing trails of fallen trees & debris are all part of keeping nature trails enjoyable and accessible.

Land Clearing with a Forestry Mulcher

With the power and efficiency of a Forestry Mulcher, we can quickly clear overgrown shrubs and thorny thickets, making way for future plantings or trail creation.

Habitat Creation

We encourage conservation biodiversity by creating habitat from existing materials. It is amazing to see signs of wildlife utilizing lands that otherwise provided little shelter. Past projects include installing Black Rat Snake nesting boxes, creating habitat piles, and clearing debris for burn breaks in preparation for prescribed burns.

Citizen Science

Throughout the workday, and especially after hours, we take a moment to observe the life that is happening around us. By pausing to identify a hover fly on a leaf or observe an American Kestrel spying its prey, we are making ourselves aware of the many moving parts engaging in the small area we are working to improve. eBird, iNaturalist, and eButterfly are some of the apps we use to share our observations.

Species-at-Risk Plot Monitoring

Periodically, we are tasked with monitoring Species-at-Risk within local woodlots. We will provide our client with data relating to health, vigor, presence of flowers/fruit, signs of damage or disease. We make notes of our observations of the immediate surroundings to assist with the landowner or land manager in creating future management work plans.
